The Emerald Isle Is a Gem for Travelers

Ireland’s lush, endless gems cast a spell on all who visit. Who wouldn’t love a country where stately castles grace rolling green hills and medieval cities still thrive?  Known as the “Emerald Isle,” even its nickname evokes images of its beauty and color. Here, locals smile warmly at newcomers, and the hum of flutes and tin whistles create a soothing soundtrack.

Dublin, dubbed the “Fair City,” features many fantastic sights. At Trinity College, you can view the Book of Kells. The ornately illustrated manuscript was created by Celtic monks in the 8th century and contains four Latin gospels from the Bible. You can’t leave this lively city without visiting the world-famous St. Patrick’s Cathedral or Dublin Castle.

Walking down O’Connell Street or through Phoenix Park, the shops and boutiques lure you in, showcasing the best of Irish souvenirs, like the traditional Claddagh Ring, often worn as a wedding ring, and warm sweaters made of wool.

A visit to Waterford Crystal’s unique factory is a must for anyone visiting Ireland. Touring the factory and actually learning firsthand how the beautiful pieces are created is the best part. After witnessing the process, the collection in the showroom seems even more amazing.

Talk of ancient legends and myths is commonplace in Ireland. So when visiting Blarney, you simply must climb to the top of the tower at Blarney Castle and kiss the Blarney Stone. Legend has it that if you do, you’ll receive the gift of eloquence.

No trip to Ireland would be complete without a stop in Killarney. Taking an Irish jaunting car ride along the Lakes of Killarney makes you feel like you’ve traveled back in time. The peaceful clicking and clacking of the horses’ hoofs as they march along the lakes is lulling, and the scenery astounding.

As you leave Killarney, embark on another journey to the Ring of Kerry. This drive, like discovering a secret, reveals one gem after another as rugged terrain wraps itself protectively around an expanse of clear blue waters creating a most romantic Irish coastline.

In the Connemara region, misty mountains and cozy seaside villages dot the landscape. Here, you must stop off in the villages and chat with the locals, who all speak Gaelic and live traditional lifestyles.

Ireland has everything, from beauty and history to fine food and great people. Locals welcome tourists into their homes and treat them like family. The Emerald Isle is a gem for all those who visit, and travelers can’t help but submit to the enchantment and mysticism of this timeless, irresistible country.
